Often, Security Officers and Privacy Officers tell me that they have difficulty persuading management of the necessity to comply with HIPAA. I tell them to give management my HIPAA and HITECH Act Management White Paper, which I recently updated and had reposted on the Veterans Press Premium Member section. But for those covered entities and business associates who have a governing board, getting the board’s buy-in may be crucial. After you have provided them the White Paper through appropriate management channels, you should ask them, again through appropriate management channels, to pass a HIPAA compliance corporate resolution requiring management and hence the corporation to comply with HIPAA. Such a HIPAA compliance corporate resolution demonstrates upper-level commitment to HIPAA and gives you ammunition to use to get necessary resources for compliance. Good luck!
